Changsha, Hunan, October 19 (Xinhua News Agency reporter Zhang Dongping) Titanium metal is known as the "versatile metal, space metal, ocean metal." On October 18th, the annual output of 10,000 tons of titanium strip coil project, invested 1.45 billion yuan by Xiangtou Jinting Investment, was officially launched and is scheduled to be completed in 2011; China's first large-diameter, wide, cold and hot-rolled titanium strip coil was also unveiled at the Lugu Industrial Park in Changsha on the same day, announcing the end of China's history of not being able to produce titanium strip coils.
The start of the 10,000-ton titanium strip coil project and the launch of cold and hot-rolled titanium strip coils mark the province's pioneering of the titanium strip coil process route and will change China's complete reliance on imports of titanium strip coils.
China has the world's largest titanium reserves, but the core technology of the titanium industry is monopolized by a few countries such as Europe and the United States. High-performance titanium materials such as large-volume, wide-width titanium strip coils are completely dependent on imports, seriously hindering the development of China's national defense and military industry and other civilian titanium industries.
Hunan Xiangtou Jinting Technology Group has a registered capital of 600 million yuan. It is a state-owned sole proprietorship enterprise dedicated to investing in the metal new material industry. Its subsidiary, Xiangtou Jinting Titanium Industry Technology Company, has the capacity to produce 10,000 tons of titanium ingots annually. In recent years, Hunan Xiangtou Jinting Technology Group, in collaboration with Hualing Steel Group, has been committed to technological innovation in titanium strip plate processing technology, achieving a "three-level jump" in core technologies for deep processing of high-performance titanium materials within three years.
In May 2007, Xiangtou Jinting Technology Group took the lead in making a major breakthrough in key technologies and successfully trial-rolled China's first large-volume, wide-width titanium strip coil; in August 2008, cold-rolled titanium strip coil trial rolling was successful; in August 2009, the first titanium welded pipe in China was produced using self-produced cold-rolled titanium strip coils.
The completion of the entire titanium strip coil process route marks China's true possession of core technologies in the field of deep processing of titanium industry, breaking the technological blockade of foreign countries.
Based on the comprehensive mastery of titanium strip coil production technology and equipment parameters, the first high-performance wide titanium strip coil project in China was officially implemented by Xiangtou Jinting Titanium Metal Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 1.45 billion yuan and a design annual output of 10,000 tons of large-volume, wide-width titanium strip coils.
The core technology research and industrialization of titanium strip coils require not only titanium industry experts but also steel experts, as well as the participation of joint titanium-steel experts. The joint titanium-steel strategy is not only a sharp weapon for Xiangtou Jinting Technology Group to break through the technological bottleneck of the titanium industry but also the successful experience of titanium industrial powers such as Japan and the United States.
Hunan Xiangtou Jinting Titanium Metal Co., Ltd. was jointly established by Xiangtou Jinting Technology Group and Hualing Lianshan Steel Group. It is currently the only high-tech enterprise in China engaged in the research, development, production, and operation of wide titanium strip coil plate series products.
Yesterday morning, Xiangtou Jinting Titanium officially launched the construction of the 10,000-ton titanium strip plate project and signed agreements with the National Engineering Research Center for High-Efficiency Rolling of Beijing University of Science and Technology and Hunan Hualing Lianshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., to jointly establish a titanium-steel joint high-efficiency rolling center and implement cross-industry and cross-enterprise resource integration.
According to Deng Junmin, president of Xiangtou Holdings Group, the 10,000-ton high-performance wide titanium strip coil project is scheduled to be completed and put into production in 2011. After reaching full production, the annual sales revenue can reach 3.6 billion yuan, with a profit of 320 million yuan. After the project is completed, it will change China's long-term dependence on imports of titanium strip coils, provide important material support for China's large aircraft, nuclear power, submarines, ocean engineering, etc., and make Hunan one of the most important industrial bases for the global titanium industry.
